INTENT

Our Curriculum has been designed to ensure each and every child can ' live life in all its fullness' by offering stimulating and awe-inspiring learning experiences with our school values at its heart because when we grow the fruit of the spirit we live as children of God, as considerate friends and as members of society who make a difference.

It is bespoke to the needs of the children at St Hardulph’s, not only by focussing on appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum, but also based upon or unique heritage, the range of mixed age classes and the diversity in and beyond the community we serve. Our evolving curriculum, responds to the needs of all our children and their interests by enhancing learning experiences and raising awareness from the local area to national and global arenas. It is also enriched by the range of activities and extra-curricular opportunities that our school organises (visits, visitors, clubs, events, engagement in opportunities such as competitions, community work etc.) for children to develop their experiences and their cultural capital. This also includes our ’50 things to do whist at St Hardulph’s’, which is a list of activities and experiences our staff and children believe every child should have the opportunity to take part in during their childhood and primary years. These experiences and opportunities may be linked into class based rolling curriculum plans or opportunities for the whole school to experience across the seven-year period children are with us.

Thus, we will develop outward looking children who are able to engage in learning about themselves and have an understanding of the wider world and its complex cultures in order to grow and make their own unique contribution to the world.

Ultimately our curriculum is intended to:

• Develop our hearts and character: Who we are 
• Develop our actions and attitudes: How we live and learn
• Develop our moral compass: Where we fit in the world and how we can make a difference.

IMPLEMENTATION

In order to ensure a rigorous, clear and well-crafted curriculum plan articulating what we want the children to know and do by the time they leave our school we create rolling programs of highly engaging topics and themes making ‘solid’ cross- curricular links. This enables the children to develop their depth of knowledge in foundation subjects whilst applying the key skills and concepts of English and Maths. This is regularly reviewed based on our annually changeable mixed age class structures. Where relevant, subjects are taught as standalone subjects and no links are tenuous. Each subject is planned meticulously but are cross referenced and matched at a ‘long term’ level in order to ensure the best approach as well as maintaining motivation, enthusiasm, and interest for both teachers and children alike making teaching and learning meaningful and engaging.

In short they will learn more, remember more, enjoy more and grow more spiritually, socially and emotionally. Thus enabling them to be ready for their next stage in their education.
